Virtual Move?

Yes, I am physically moving tomorrow, but don't worry, the Vwork.com virtual office and virtual community will not change.  I have been living in the UK for the past year, but I am originally from Canada.  What was I doing in the UK?

Virtual Work allows freedom of living anywhere

Having been able to earn a good living online, working from home sometimes and sometimes working at the main office under contract has been great. I was living in Ottawa when my wife got an offer from her employer to get a one year stint working in the UK.  It would involve moving us two and our two sons.

Because of the flexibility which working virtually allows me, we were able to accept. My loyal customer being really satisfied with my services of project management and database development (both perfectly compatible with virtual work), we mutually agreed to keep working together over that one year. I also decided to more more to part-time work, so that I would have time to travel throughout Europe during my kids school breaks.

The year has gone extremely well!  I have been to so many cities and countries I sometimes have trouble remembering all of them...  UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria... and now Canada!

All that traveling would not have been possible without having my virtual job to pay for most of it, so my work and lifestyle became really a good match and allowed further progress on both my personal side and professional side.

That's the great thing with Virtual Work - you get so much flexibility potential, but you still have to negotiate properly with your customers and partners to take advantage of that potential.  If you are productive and have good relationships with customers and partners, then you have options because you are a trusted person.

Moving to Canada

So we are moving back to Ottawa, Canada this week, and my top priority now is to work for an easy transition of my physical office (desk, chairs, electronics, papers & books).  I will keep a laptop with me, but most of the office will travel by sea container.

My virtual world will continue to operate without any impact, as the website is operating from virtual servers somewhere in California.   Using my laptop on the road, I will connect regularly and monitor the site, and maybe even add more resources and create new articles!

We are moving back to Ottawa, located about half way between Montreal and Toronto and about seven hours north of New York city. Quite a good location. I think that moves me closer to India and Pakistan, but farther from China, but I am not certain, it's really on the other side of the planet!

Online operations to continue to grow

Over the next week or two, there are two aspects of Vwork I want to improve:

  1. The first is to offer more links to actual online job sites where people can go a look for online jobs from reputable providers, not gimmicks that ask for money for easy job with quick money (there are no free lunches out there!).  Earning money online (an anywhere really) requires providing real value, and that takes some efforts.
  2. The second aspect to improve is to provide more links to free educational resources available online, which allows to increase your knowledge and skills, and therefore offer more leading-edge services which will give you an edge on your competitors.
  3. I know I said two things, but this third aspect to grow if my next big goal after the first two.  I want to gradually develop Vwork into a central virtual work resource center where people can link all of their virtual work places into one and actually start forming virtual partnerships to kick-start new business models that will take advantage of all the virtual infrastructure available on the global cloud computing.
    • Wow, there was a lot of buzz words here, I will work on making that clearer.
    • Let me know your suggestions for improvements, what you would like to have supporting your virtual work career!

I was back from my holidays in Spain last week and it was good to be back home.  The sun was fantastic, the sea was blue and our family had a really good time. But it is always good to be home... even when home is your workplace!

Working at home can change things for the better if you know how to manage your work life balance. For example, I went on vacation even though I had to keep an eye on my website: I was able to do that from an internet cafe (only had to do it a couple of times).  It was great to have access to my work for a few hours, and I could do that from anywhere on the planet!

By the way, have you see this statistics from Google?  Virtual Work trend is really catching-up.  Have a look at what Google is showing as the trend for online job:

Aside from the usual dip just before the holidays, the long-term trend is definitely up!

Now, my goal for the next month or so is to see how people can find online job more efficiently, while avoiding the scams and dishonest people that roam out there.  Do you have ideas how the Vwork community can assist you in that?  Maybe if everyone shared one thing that has worked for them to reach their goal online, that would be useful to everyone, and everyone would in turn benefit from others suggestions.

There is actually already a user group that looks at earning money online.  Have you checked-it recently?  If everyone gave a review, there would be indeed a lot of useful information, and that would save all of us lots of time and money!

Go ahead and add your two cents!  It cost nothing and will serve the community!  This is what I am really after in the long term!

Cheers!

Virtual Work...

What is it exactly that you had in mind?

I have asked myself that questions many times, and it seems the answer to that keeps changing somewhat.  What will its meaning be to you?  It depends what your needs are.  Virtual work needs to be discovered and developed to be what you need.  I can guide you through that, but there will be work for you to do and discover what your needs are.

Really different from usual meaning of work.

This is the powerful side of virtual - make it be what you can imagine.  Design the meaning of virtual work to be what your dreams tell you the ideal work environment should be. There are of course some key rules to follow, or your virtual work will stay an empty vision that brings no rewards.

And this is my mission, my contribution to this website as its creator: create a source of information and a community.  By doing this, I hope to help people evolve to a new, simpler and cleaner way to earn a living that is enjoyable, efficient and allows for personal achievement through an integrated approach to living and working at home or anywhere.

Virtual Work - Real Value

What should matter is what value your works brings to other, not if there is a name for the job you are doing.

Some rules of the virtual work world are based on the human spirit and work the same as in the real world:  people usually succeed better with support of a close community that shares similar values and goals.  This is the reason for this site to be designed as it is, allowing the creation of your profile so smaller customized communities can be created.  Its not a matter of who can collect the most names, it is the quality of the relationships and their usefulness to a common goal that will make it worthwhile.

Journey

I have discovered virtual work over the past four years. It has been a journey where I have tested many limits and broken new grounds.

  • My limits as to my limit of comfort as to how much I could work without much passion for a full-time job
  • providing stability, versus working in a new virtual work dimension where I make the rule for what I do,
  • how I earn my salary, how much risk I take, who I work closely with.
  • Where I want to work,
  • How I want my work lifestyle to be seamlessly meshed with my home life

I have found this new virtual work dimension to be different than what most people are used to.  Better in some ways, more dangerous in other ways.

  • I have developed multiple customers.
  • I have been able to do more with and for my family life.
  • I have had time to get into my hobbies and passions.
  • My health is better than it has ever been.
  • I have traveled the world for business and pleasure with my family.

Priority Work

This is the first priority for my work with Vwork:  share the  experiences of my journey with interested and motivated people to push the limits of what is possible to reach new limits of achievements, both financial and personal.

Your first priority will be to examine your priorities and values and define what you want out of each aspects of your life: you need money, but you need time to enjoy it!  Enjoying it alone is no fun either:  you need family and friends with you!

Follow my blogs and my newsletter to see how that approach can apply to anyone.  It has worked wonders for me, it can for you as well if you are willing to learn more about you and what possibilities are there for you.
