Incredible but true...  when you know where to look, you can have fun or do easy work and get paid one way or another.  You will certainly not get rich quick with this, but you will have fun cheaply and get extra credits to use in games, airmiles or other bonus.  If you are looking for people to do simple small tasks, this may be worth checking into!

Welcome to CrowdFlower Inc, a three-year-old player in the crowd-sourcing industry that taps a vast global workforce of people to perform tasks 24/7 cheaply and flexibly.

Here's how it works. CrowdFlower embeds tasks in online games like FarmVille, Restaurant City, It Girl, Happy Aquarium, Happy Pets, Happy Island and Pop Boom. This means that the estimated 80 million gamers - from teens to homemakers - hooked on FarmVille, Zynga's popular virtual farming game on Facebook, can be transformed into a virtual workforce.

How do you learn about the best ways to get contracts and work online? You are probably doing what has been successful in the past, but that was yesterday.  New opportunities will come to those who innovate and provide good value to their customers and partners.

To make this innovation easier, Virtual Workers should help each other so we will all benefit from a stronger communiy with better work processes and a better collective reputation.  Because everyone is providing value in their own unique ways, chances are that you are not helping your competitors, you are helping the community, which in turn will help you with ideas from others innovators.

Here are some ways to create value for the community and get feedback from others to innovate:

  • Build your reputation in the virtual work world by adding information to your profile, creating a vwork group or posting to an existing one.
  • Send a friend request to someone you find interesting or that is from an area of the world you would like to do business with.  Use the built-in advanced search to look for keyword into profile fields.
  • Write a Review of services you have been using
  • Solve problems others have discussed in the community
  • Tell us what has worked well for you
  • Find partners and teammates to tackle bigger projects
  • Learn online with free courses from world class best universities that have opened their contents for free.

As our community grow and as you contribute with posts and information, you will gain Vwork Points, which may eventually allow you to exchange mutually beneficial services with others by paying with those points.  Not only will you make your profile and your groups points of interests in the Virtual Landscape, you will actually grow your power and status.

Better Lifestyle

I started Vwork to help people work online to achieve a better lifestyle.  Using free tools developed by community of writers and coders, I leveraged Joomla to host my content and grow into a social tool (with Jomsocial) to host the virtual work experience where people and small businesses work to be innovative and learn best ways to:

  • develop a stable income,
  • get rid of commuting,
  • do what you like best !

Virtual Work - Real Growth

But growing does not come automatically for small companies on the global market (and being a  team of one, I am small !).  So I decided to hire writers and researchers to look for the newest and best ways to work online.  I will have experienced people from all over the world, because the virtual work experience is a litle bit different in various part of the world.

The neat thing is that by having people talking about how they are achieving good results in their own ways, we will all benefits by learning new ways, and maybe some areas of the world are better than others?

While I will train and supervise the writers and researchers, their work will free me to do more research into the best and most innovative (and most profitable) ways to work online.

Virtual Work Era coming

I really think that virtual work has a global role to reduce pollution and improve our global lifestyle and happiness by removing old obstacles that the industrial era has imposed on us, such as working in big factories, being only a number in a large pool of workers, being forced to conform to tight ways of thinking that are not flexible and adapted to our times.

Let's see if we can push this Virtual Work era to a Global Level!

Cheers!

Michael

PS: we all need to share our best practices for new and better ways to emerge. Go to the discussion to have your say!

Danger ahead

Working online...  no more commuting in traffic... nobody looking over your shoulder.... This may appear as a great solution, but working online also brings with it some pretty unique challenges.

Considers the social interactions that you get from work, for example.  We get a lot of cues and direct information from working face to face with others on common projects.  Through meetings with our boss, we get direct feedback in speech, but we also get some subtle physical feedback that provides useful information.  The smile and nodding when you explain a new technique you are using are telling you you are on the right track even if you get questions!  Working online is more monotonous, and you will have to rely more on email, icons :) and phone conversations.  Besides, you may get lonely talking to your cat!

Motivation is another obvious difference:  working virtually, you have to keep working even when no direct pressure is applied by your customers.  Yes you have deadlines, but knowing a deadline is coming may not be sufficient to work extra hard and push yourself to be more productive.

As Virtual Worker, we may not openly admit to these pitfalls, but we know the dangers of working virtually are there. So what are the solutions?  Because of all the advantages of working from home, isolated from office politics and the long commute, surely there must be solutions to these dangers lurking in the virtual work place...

Strategies

Discovering and sharing of winning strategies is one of the key Mission of this site.

I really believe the world will be better as more and more people do what they like from wherever they want.  Working Virtually is a Top Strategy to reduce our working carbon footprint, improve our quality of life, and, hopefully, increase our motivation and productivity.

Aside from working virtually, other strategies can really remove barriers to being more productive and happier doing it (without working 12 hour days and sacrificing the rest of your life).

Motivation and Productivity

From everything I have read on people achievement in many different domain, productivity depends to a large extent on motivation. Of course you need knowledge and skills, but these two are not sufficient to really have optimum productivity and innovation.  You all noticed how hard it is to work on a project you don't like, or doing something you don't believe in.

If you are someone not motivated, but with skills and knowledge required to do the job, work will be done, time will be spent in front of the computer, but when your mind is not satisfied and feeling a deep mission, and engagement, progress will be slower and more mistakes will be done as the worker is thinking about what he will do after work, how that work can be done faster so he can go for longer breaks or longer friendly chats.

It is a well documented fact that someone motivated will work more effectively, produce more and even enjoy the satisfaction of the work.  The hard part is that motivation is a personal thing, not everyone responds to the same stimulation.

Strategies Treasure

The nice thing with new studies in brain imaging and workplace psychology, is that we know more about what motivates people now than we ever did !!!  On top of that, there are more people working virtually than there has ever been!  Surely there must be somethings we can share between all of us that would help us become better at virtual work!  This can make the different between just making ends meet or having extra to take a long trip every year... and even working from over there!  How is that for motivation!!! I don't know many people that would not be motivated by thinking they could be working from somewhere with better weather, a different city with a more exotic character.

Let's share how we can work virtually better: if doesn't matter if you are a top marketing gurus, a web programmer, a writer or researching online all day long, your experience is worth a lot to all of us.   Come to the Strategies Group to read, share and find better tips to work better and enjoy it more.  See what works for me and others, and try these strategies for yourself!

The best and most appreciated strategies will get recognition in an upcoming newsletter.

Work online

As I started looking for my next project to work virtually, I have found a clear leader in the online work market: Elance

Finding work online

With so many websites about finding work, how can you find real work without having to pay to actually see the job postings?  Here are three factors that made me find a really good site with work available for just anybody:

First of all, they have thousands of job posted that can be done virtually for practically all occupations that can be done via computer or the phone.

Then, they don't require money to sign-up and look for work anything to register and look for work.

And best of all, you can find-out about past history and build trust by looking at ratings of Companies hiring and service providers. This in effect allows you to start your Virtual career online and grow your reputation.

In short, it is worth having a look to see what kind of work there is that you could do.

Search their jobs bank today.

After you have a look at that, post a comment in the Virtual Workplace and see what others have found.

Good virtual job hunting!

Michael
